Before buying

Regretting after ending up going with wrong decision is common in people who rush in getting their first car. Even if some people have previous experience of having car they do same mistake.

So its better to stop, research and go with suitable car which never disappoints you .

Research & Preparation

You need to Set a budget ceiling and it shouldn’t be just for the car price but also for insurance cost, fuel and maintenance for your upcoming months or years.

Check Total Cost of Ownership (TCO):

After making a price braket for upfront cost of car you should Use calculators to compare fuel economy, service costs, spare parts availability, and resale value.

This is what you should know about your shortlisted car compare to other cars if it will cost you high on maintenance or going to be pocket friendly.

Depreciation check:

Cars usually lose 15–30% value in the first year. So Picking a used, 2–3-year-old car can save you thousands of dollars. Mostly car owners don’t damage their cars mechanically in such time period but still it is recommended for you to inspect and then make any deal further.

Cross-shop models:

Don’t relay on one brand only or dealer of same brand because sometimes a competitor gives more features at less cost.

If you are lucky enough and have a great sense of bargaining then you can get a better deal on same model from different dealer or showroom.

Loan pre-approval:

Get financing quotes from your bank before visiting the dealer — often lower interest rates than dealer financing.

There is always difference between invoice price what a dealer gets deal from manufacturing plant and it is mostly available on some online forums. So better you research the dealer’s invoice cost online to know how much margin they have.

Negotiate “On-Road” not “Ex-Showroom”:

Now you know the exact price of invoice so you can get a decebt discount from dealer in case they try to overcharge you. Now you can include insurance, registration, handling, accessories in discussions and get on road price quote

Avoid bundled extras:

Now here comes some extra nonsense expenses which you don’t even need but Dealers push overpriced seat covers, Teflon coating, or insurance. And they are at very high price due to being offered from showrooms.

In case if you really want to get them they Get them outside at half the price. Where you can have many wide options and custom accessories.

Trade-in separately:

In case if you are exchanging your an old car, negotiate its price separately, not bundled into new car cost. Car AC

Why Your Car AC Blows Hot Air (And How To Fix It)

Car ACIndia is known for very hot climate, so other Asian and middle east countries are, and if you are going on a long trip or you have to cover even a short distance but your AC fails to cool down car cabin and your car AC blowing hot air then it’s really frustrating.

Usually it happens due to faulty compressor or gas leakage but Sometimes there is minor issues which can be fixed at home with some DIY.

There are common solutions which don’t even need much knowledge or high efforts to solve it so here are things which can be taken care at home with your spare few minutes check and fix.

Main causes for  AC to not working properly to cool down car’s cabin

There can be so many reasons that your car ac is not working properly and most of the time it happens due to poor maintenance of your AC components.

So most of the time problem is traced by minimal knowledge and efforts so here are main causes to slow your AC cooling

Low refrigerant levels or gas leakage

Refrigerant is commonly called as AC gas which is main reason your car gets cooled during your drive.

This is common issue with some old cars when components are aged and they start giving fault and you can identify the problem by hearing any hissing sound or bubbling sound from AC lines which reduces cooling capacity.

Sometimes you can find some oil stains or wet patches near AC hoses or fittings

Faulty compressor

Compressor is heart of AC system which sends AC gas into whole AC setup and in case of Compressor failure all AC system collapses.

When there is problem with compressor then AC stops working suddenly and then it start working itself. It makes loud clicking noise.

Even when AC is on then it gives cool air and next time hot air so it works intermittently.

The shocking downfall of rajdoot bike. detailed story of rajdoot

Condenser issues

Condenser is second most important component in AC system after compressor and It is fitted in engine bay near radiator.

Condenser cools down refrigerant to keep cooled airflow in your AC system. If it is clogged with any particle like dirt, leaves or raod debris it will not cool down AC gas which will result in hot air in cabin.

You can see if there is dirt or any damage to condenser which is blocking hoses to work properly. Mostly in this case car temperature improves while driving but when car is idle in traffic it effects cooling level.

Electrical or relay problem

Modern cars are equipped with lots of electronics and each electronic component has its relay so when there is an issue like fused or bad relay then it effects cooling capacity.

When there is an issue with relay then AC doesn’t even start as power supply is not reaching to AC unit especially with fused relay. A bad relay can inconsistent cooling.

If you see dashboard AC light is flickering it can be another sign of bad AC relay.

Cabin air filter blockage

Whenever people go for Servicing their car they pay attention only on regular parts to maintain but they forget that their car has another air filter which exists in the AC system and they don’t ask service center guys to clean or maintain after some specific kms.

Over the time it gets filled with dust, debris which choke its airflow and which results in less cooling or even it doesn’t work.

A clogged air filter blocks the airflow even at maximum fan speed even there can be musty or dusty smell in the cabin after turning on AC and there will be visible dirt when filter is removed.

How to Maintain Your Motorcycle for Long Rides

Step by step DIY fixes

Here are some small steps which can be taken at home to avoid visiting mechanics or service center which will take a good amount of money for simple work which can be done with less efforts at home.

While washing car ask the washing guy to clean the AC condenser with gentle water spray which will clean all the dirt or debris from condenser and keep it works well.

If you see any flickering in dashboard ac lights or inconsistent AC flow then check relay and fuses you can buy it yourself from spare parts shop and change it at home or keep a spare relay or fuse at home it will be helpful.

With minimal efforts you can clean tye air filter at home or you can replace it if it needs to be replaced. Regular inspection and cleaning increases the efficiency of AC

Always check the refrigerant level if you feel any less performance in your car AC there are pressure gauge which gives accurate reading.

When to visit to a mechanic

There are some issues which can’t be solved by you so you need any mechanic for them as they need professional knowledge and tools.

If your car’s AC compressor is noisy or not working properly then you should visit a mechanic or service center as it needs mechanical work to fix this problem.

If there is any hissing sound or stains on ass hoses or wet patches near AC vents then you should visit a mechanic.

If you change fused or relay but problem is still there then you should go to service center as it is a mechanical error which can be fix with professional scanning only.

Even if everything seems good but still AC performance drops suddenly without any visible cause then visit service center for better solution.

Common mistakes to avoid

There are some mistakes which even some mechanics also do so you can avoid it by telling it or you should also known for yourself to avoid doing wrong work on your car

Sometimes mechanics fill refrigerant or AC gas without fixing leakage which resulted in leaking new gas too and problem remains there same. So its better to inspect fault first and repair any leakage before topping up gas.

Sometimes some car owners ignore weak cooling in their car which later leads to big problems which needs more money to fix entire AC system.

Some local mechanics keep some low quality refrigerant or amAC parts which fail in short duration and it can also harm your car AC system so always avoid to save some money on refrigerant or parts.

Don’t relay only on yearly service so always check any fault or basic checks at your home by yourself.

Conclusion

So a car’s AC  is most crucial part in a car especially for hot indian summers so never avoid checking your AC components and functionality.

Ome basic fixes at home can make your car AC long lasting and efficient on cooling and also less load on your fuel consumption.

Maintain Your motorcycle

How to Prepare Your Motorcycle for Long Rides (Complete Touring Guide)

If you are into traveling then you will know the importance of habit to Maintain Your Motorcycle when you are still stand on side of the road with a sudden breakdown and it may be more painful if weather is not in your favor.

Here are important points which you should know to perform regular or on a short period of time to avoid such problems on your long or mini tours.

Common mistakes riders do

It’s very common to have a secondary bike for touring who owns 300cc or above motorcycles for regular uses. But sometimes some riders have single bike which they use for their daily needs and then touring purpose and both type of riders do this common mistake.

It’s natural that if bike is parked for very long time then first common issue with the bike is battery drainage, and some other components also have issue with a parked bike instead of a bing regular used bike.

If a tyre is not rotating it also start cracking its side walls so a parked bike faces slightly more issues than a regular running bike.

BMW & Drift: An immortal love story

Now riders don’t pay attention to maintain a bike for regular uses as they care before leaving for a ride. There are some regular maintenance steps which are ignored by bikers during their city use of bike but taken care during long rides only which is not a good practice.

How to Maintain Your Motorcycle

Here are some point which can keep your motorcycle well maintained for any adventure by following them.

Checklist

There are some points where it needs to pay attention regular to avoid big problem during your rides

Always check these points by yourself usually every day for a smooth ownership experience and hassle free rides.

Engine oil

People usually don’t care about quality and lifespan of their motorcycle’s engine oil and they are relayed on service center guy to change its only when they visit to service center for Servicing their bike.

I have habit of topping up engine oil whenever I visit to service center for any reason as it gives more life to engine to work on perfect level of oil in engine blocks.

This habit saves me from worries of due date of services whenever you are on a road trip and your bike has run some 500 to 1000 kms even 1500 kms you don’t have to worry about service or low oil levels to harm your engine.

Chain

People don’t track their chain maintenance habit or distance they have covered after cleaning and lubing their chain from last maintenance. They avoid regular chain lube and cleaning in city uses which impact chain and its components from lack of regular maintenance.

The incidence of chain breaking while cruising at speed occurs due to poor habits of avoiding chain maintenance which reduces chains life and performance

Chain tension is also important step after lubrication as it can reduces performance of the bike.

A over tight chain can causes harm to gearbox as it puts more tension on gearbox while increasing or reducing speed.

And a loose chain can snap or creating friction on lower part of sprocket cover and wear and tears is increased on gear teeth on back and front rotor.

HOLDEN, The BMW Beater This Brand Didn’t Want You To Drive: Which Was Murdered By GM

Tire

The First main point in tire is to maintain a proper tire pressure which increases tires life and wrong tire pressure decreases mileage of the motorcycle.

Running on lower tire pressure increases risks of puncture which can be problematic for you if you are riding with a pillion especially with your lady partner at night and your tire got puncture at nowhere to close to any residential area at night.

So don’t just check tire pressure before preparing for a long rides but make it a habit to check tire pressure every alternative week and if it drops then fill it to company recommended value.

You can buy a tire inflator which can be used at your tours as well as for regular tire maintenance at home without visiting any fuel station or tire shop.

Brakes

Mostly bikes even in commuter segment are coming with Disc brakes by replacing it from conventional drum breaks so braking has improved as it is very crucial part of a motorcycle to stop it precisely at any emergency braking.

Factory fitted brake pads are good but its always better to upgrade your brake pads for better stopping power.

Mostly bikes are using organic brake pads which are affected by heat on constant braking and it looses its performance so its better to upgrade them with ceramic brake pads for improving braking quality.

If you really wanna improve more then you can go for sintered brake pads which are costly and they are used in performance bikes .

But i use those brake pads by spending more on them as indian roads are unpredictable with sudden road crossing stray animals and potholes on the road so it needs a better stopping power for panic braking.

After upgrading better brak pads you need to check fluid level regular and keep inspecting condition of brake pads if they are worn out then better to change them.

Whenever you visit service center never forgot to topup fluids it gives you peace of mind.

Lights

Stock lights are fine but they’re not sufficient once you step out the city roads where there are no streetlight and you are gonna expect the unexpected things to cross your path.

Indian infrastructure is not that much good for night rides so always spend on auxiliary lights they are gonna provide better visibility at night. It will be best investment you are gonna have on your motorcycle.

Even if don’t ride in nights then still there are possibilities that you end up riding at night so prepare for it.

Despite having good auxiliary lights you need to check all the lights functionality if they are working well because even turn signals can stop working on your ride or brakelight can stop working it can be harmful.

Small efforts save big problems

Even if your bike is running fine and everything is working properly but it can change on long distance trips where man and machine is tested for its endurance.

So many riders skip their regular maintenance steps and they relay only on service center.

Conclusion

If you learn from my experience then it would be always better to give some time to your bike at home and do some regular inspection and do required DIY stuff to keep your bike well maintained by spending few minutes every week.

You can make a habit of topping up your bike fluids and regular nut and bolt inspection and tight them. If yiu have good relations with service center employee they do general checkups for free and fix if anything is loosen or they can take small money to perform general inspection on your bike and by this you don’t have to visit service center for general inspection before starting your long rides.

After following this habit i never visited to service center before my ride and my motorcycle is always good to go anytime I only visit to service center after i return from my ride to get a general inspection if my bike didn’t get damaged on poor Indian roads.

5 mistakes car buyers make online and how to avoid them

Nowadays internet has made everything easy for people and buying a car is one of those tasks.

It is easy and convenient but also risky at the same time. When online shopping can save lots of tine and money from your busy schedule where you can’t test drive or futher handover process, it can bring lots of mental stress if you end up buying a wrong car.

So here are possible scams and hidden risks which can happen to you and how to escape from such situations.

Trusting dealers website blindly

Lots of new or well established car dealers have their own website or online platform like youtube channel, facebook pages or instagram pages where they list their inventory.

On the other hands there are some multi state operating businesses which deals in used cars on a big scales like cars24, true value, mahindra first choice, spinny etc which has more options nationwide for people.

And there is some other second hand vehicle selling platform like olx, facebook marketplace, Droom. Which have vehicles category for dealing in 2 and 4 wheelers.

Sometimes we are confused about fair price for some particular model so there is price calculator in droom website and app to calculate fair price of particular model by adding condition, kms, years, varient and it gives a fair price according to all these factors

A big name can’t give you assurances of a well maintained product even there are risks of being scammed but it is very low compare to some shaddy car dealers.

The Madness Behind Chevrolet Cruze

People often trust on these well established car dealers for their authority in the business but these dealers often highlight the good part of car. There are some details which are not shared with buyers like accident history, previous ownership issues.

Ignoring service history and documents

It is seen that when someone buys its first car then the person doesn’t have much knowledge about cars and ownership, he sometimes doesn’t pay attention to get full service history of the vehicle due to lack of awareness.

But it happens with those people too who are buying it for second or more time. They avoid checking service history as they are confident in their previous experience so they don’t think that things can be unnoticed from their inspection or feedback after taking a test drive.

But it is possible that previous owner has skipped some services due to low running or especially if it is on loan as there could be tight budget so people tend to skip service or replacement of any part which is harmful for a smooth ownership experience.

Not comparing prices across other car sellers

Different dealers and car businesses list their same type of model at Different prices sometimes its depends on cars condition but is should be very minimal difference.

Sometimes buyers come across A deal about same model which they ever thought to purchase then they end up buying it at the price which is listed by car dealers.

Falling for too good to be true ads

Nowadays scams in online car dealing has increased where some people post very luring deals and they claim money issue or transfer reason to sale stuff and cars are one of them too. If there is any deal similar to this it can be scam so never pay any upfront money until you don’t inspect vehicle.

Sometimes it is real deal where very attractive deals can be seen then there can be reason that car is either flood affected, accidental and then repaired even in some cases some total loss cars are restored and the sold on these online selling platform.

There are chances that car is having some pending loan so always check if it has clean bank record.

How Mahindra Thar became An emotion for the nation after 2020

Skipping independent inspection

When posting an ad on selling platform or their own website then dealers pay attention only on outer look so they repair soke dents or paint jobs to hide such things and then after washing and polishing cars they list it on websites.

Car can look great and clean in photos or videos but it can hide real issues with engine, suspension,  gearbox or any electronics failure. Some car dealers fix some issues temporarily to save money on repairing costs and sell it to customers where car works fine for few days or week then it starts giving issues.

People go for second hand cars to save money  on a new car but when they end up buying some defective piece it starts giving financial and mental burden. Some cars are known as money pit which keep creating issues with its even after repairing component.

Some people end up buying an unreliable product which is known for mechanical errors in lack of knowledge and it spoils their car ownership experience and it becomes financial burden on their pocket.

And some cars are creating issues due to previous owner’s lack of maintenance or excessive use of car with a rough driving style  so in both cases it is a bad deal.

Conclusion

Even if it’s not easy to buy a right car from online with lots if risks and chances of falling for a wrong deal but it can be avoided by taking these precautions while shopping for a used cars from any reputed car businesses or small car dealers.

Never trust on dealers words blindly even if they clain to be a first owner car or non accidental car.

Always verify vin nunber to know the basic details about car and then check if engine and chassis numbers are same as it is on vin plate. Match the manufacturing date on all windows glasses if they mismatch then it can be accidental car.

Always check service history of the car for service details from website of that brand and also check insurance claim history of the vehicle from platforms like mparivahan.

Always research about price differences on different platforms to get a fair desl without overpaying.

Always take a well trained mechanic with you or it will be better of you book a car inspection group like cars24 which takes a minimal fee of the car inspection where they check some points with their professional tools and give a clean reports.

Seeing this, a tractor manufacturing company escorts had a vision of making a bike which fill the gap between bikes and scooters so they decided to launch a mid segment bike.

Escorts didn’t have prior experience or manufacturing plant so they collaborated with a polish company SHL to design and develop motorcycle.

They purchased rights of their motorcycle model M11 which had 173 cc 2 stroke engine and all the tools were bought build it in india.

Reliability issues

After being famous in middle class people, rajdoot was known for some bad reasons too and people had to face this everyday.

First point was its design flaw, as rajdoot had gear liver and kick liver at same side so it needed to shift gear from same place.

Another issue was common with its oil levels, people were facing oil leak and carborator overflow which causing massive blue smoke if there is no proper handling of bike.

Partnership with yamaha

Bike industry was changing rapidly in the starting of 80s and there were new overseas brands who started approaching indian market after globalization of automobile industry. Rajdoot was getting mix response from indian customers for its performance and issues.

Escorts decided to do partnership with yamaha company to bring more bikes model for its customers so they collaborated with yamaha in late 80s and decided to brought their legendry bike rd350.

At that time india had strict rules for importing vehicles from overseas so Escorts got successful in getting rights of yamaha rd350 for Indian market.

Escorts did some changes in the rd350 according to Indian market, front Disc was replaced by shoe drum brakes to reduces price from its international Version.

Original yamaha rd350 was coming with 39 hp and Indian version was launched with only 27 hp power still it was knownto reach 0 to 60 in 4 seconds.

Early product for indian market and maintenance hurdles

At that time people used to buy bikes for their primary use and this bike had very high price which was not affordable for most people in india that’s why it had very few customers and this bike despite having modern technology and powerful engine was a failed producf in india.

Indian concern more about fuel economy so this bike having a big powerful engine used to give less mileage so people didn’t want to buy it for its running cost.

There was another factor which stopped people from buying this bike and it was its high cost maintenance. Escorts used to import its spare parts from Japan which was very costly to change anh part and due to this reason there was delay in bike repairing time.

There were very few trained mechanics who were able to work on this bike so people started avoiding this bike for maintenance and costly ownership.

Widow maker

This term is used for those bikes which have very powerful engine but they have very poor braking ability.

After designing it for indian customers Escorts decided to cut cost on its braking components which was a disaster decision. It led bike to a poor braking feedback.

This bike was able to reach 160 kmph speed with its technology torque induction system but there were no strong braking bite to stop this bike at minimal time so due to this many new riders lost their lives.

Downfall of rajdoot

After failure of yamaha rd350 Escorts and yamaha launched a compact bike yamaha rx100 which was fuel efficient small engine bike and people who were ignore rajdoot and rd350 they started showing their interest in yamaha rx100.

But in rural areas people were still buying rajdoot 175 so Escorts decided to focus on rajdoot bike and they brought rajdoot with different names in market like rajdoot xt rajdoot electronic etc.

In 90s after liberation in automobile industry many foreign brands started doing their business in india with partnership of Indian companies so they started working on 4 stroke lightweight engines for more mileage and less pollution.

After government brought bs2 norms in india to control pollution rajdoot decided to shut their production of 2 strokes engines because it was very costly to develop a new 4 stroke engine for rajdoot 175.

Conclusion

After selling more than 1.4 millions bikes rajdoot yamaha decided to stop their production 20 years ago with a great history in automobile industry.

Now there are rumour of new rajdoot in market with advanced technology to bring alive that retro bike for indian customers. Its is not confirmed yes as no official news is given from Escorts or yamaha so far.

Nissan

What caused Nissan’s downfall? Story of legend to loser

Nissan not only built race iconic cars but it also built powerful engine in suv to its sport cars and some others company like Suzuki also used its engine in its off-roader gypsy.

nissan

Nissan is known for its skyline GTR, patrol, worldwide and it’s first choice for tuning shops and car enthusiasts to customize it.

Best known JDM brand for its performance and wide scope of modification which is used on cartoon tv shows too.

Short history of Nissan

In 1933 a Japanese company tobaka casting where they made a auto devision with the name of Nissan motors, which was formed properly as automobile branch after world war.

From 1950 they started making reliable and affordable cars and till 1960 they were reputed name in car industry.

In 60s nissan started importing their cars in USA and Europe with the name of Datsun which created a history for nissan in automobile field.

In the same time nissan was participating in Japanese race events where they were obtaining lead or 2nd or 3rd position in every car race which started building Nissan’s fan following.

In the 80s and 90s nissan had build some famous and fast cars which captured European and USA customers with their sporty fast cars like GTR etc.

Beginning of the Nissan’s downfall

Nissan was doing everything great but Nissan’s business started facing downfall even if they were in demand in 90s.

It’s true that Nissan attracted customers through its presence in racing world but nissan was involved in racings extremely that it spent most of the money on events and participating and lack of attention on its business.

All of this led to company towards loss and it had 17,02,11,51,000.00 United States Dollar in 1999 and Nissan had to have partnership with Renault with their 36% stake to save it from going to bankrupt.

There are few points which brought downfall on Nissan.

When Egoistic Porsche Lost Its Legacy To The BMW By M3 GTR

Cost cutting and no R&D

After getting new CEO nissas focused on major cost cutting and which resulted in lacking research and development on company’s products.

Because of this Nissan’s cars were keeping loosing its iconic badge of performance cars now company shifted to family cars like sedan and vans

and new innovations

Due to cost cutting policies of Nissan there weren’t innovative cars in this brand as it used to be in early year so car enthusiasts started getting away from this brand.

Alliance structure

Nissan has another partners in its share like Mitsubishi and Renault where Renault has more stake in company but still Nissan was more profitable than these other brands.

All this created chaos in board members so there wasn’t progressive partnership due to varying mindset and decisions.

Controversy and arrest of Carlos

In 2018, company’s CEO Carlos ghosn was aarrested in Japan with allegations of hiding own salary and serious charges of  financial misconduct against him.

He was accused of using company’s funds and  adding their personal losses in company’s balancesheet.

Before Carlos ghoul was taken as a hero in Japanese media for recovering a looss making  big company with his dedication strategies and plans by working from morning 7 to evening 11 pm.

Lack of visionary Leadership

After Carlos ghoul arrest Nissan’s leadership was totally wracked so there were no new strategies no clear visionary approach and no strong decisions which resulted it to decreasing even more market share.

Outdated and boring products

In post pandemic Era nissan was totally on Backfoot when other competitors were busy in adopting new market trend and manufacturing their products with new technologies especially in ev sector, nissan wasn’t even updating their existed products from very long time.

There’s even some issues with its models and quality complains were on peak which was making negative impact on Nissan’s customer service experience of people.

Slower actions than rival and even new established car brands

Where other brands

Overexpension

When Nissan’s sales were on peak in year 2017 then nissan started expansion globally before stabling its growth and profile. Nissan was spending more on expansion without a proper lineup and product.

So in 2020 pandemic, nissan couldn’t handle overexpansion burden and it started scaling down.

And this wasn’t a good sign for a company which started giving competition to brands like honda Toyota etc.

Nissan lost its half value after its profit dragged down 75% with sale from 5.8 million to 4 million and desperate for survival.

Nissan in india

Nissan entered in Indian car market in 2005 with its Teana model through cbu route. Later Nissan’s collaboration with Renault brought well known hatchback cars like Renault kwid, nissan micra in a manufacturing plant in Chennai.

With this joint venture nissan brought very decent products in india like nissan micra, sunny etc which had a great market share with big numbers of sales.

Weak products planning

Nissan failed to plan its products well structurally to launch in india where even dealers couldn’t catch their strategy. It led massive confusion in buyers and dealers

Is Hyundai Exter 2023 A Raised Hatchback Or SUV?

Less and limited service centers

No doubt Nissan’s products were quality products but it failed to expand its service centers and customer experience with ita services. There was massive issue with spare parts availability which was enough for negative marketing about Nissan’s services.

Under estimating to Indian customers

Where entry level car market was already being dominating by well established car brands Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki, nissan didn’t provide even infotainment system in it dutson go and redigo hatchback even it top varient.

Indian customers were underestimated by nissan which caused failure in Indian operation.

Life cycle management

When Nissan didn’t have much products in indian market, it decided to discontinue well performing products like micra, sunny without launching any successor or any new replacement.

Even terrano was discontinued within few years of its launch even if it was rebadge kf Renault Duster.

Currently there’s only one product of Nissan in Indian market which is nissan magnet and nissan is exporting Nissan magnate outside India from its Indian manufacturing plant.

Conclusion

So nissan is missing its innovative soul in design and if it wants to comeback then nissan should avoid unnecessary coat cutting and bring some new models in market after researching.

BMW & Drift an immortal love story

BMW & Drift: An immortal love story

I guess you all have watched fast and furious: Tokyo drift and you are all aware of drifting cars on tóge mountains. In fact there wasn’t real tòge mountain pass featured in the movie but mount Fuji road was used as drifting location for the movie scenes.

BMW was never the one who introduced drifting to the world but why the name of drifting culture was linked to it when it’s Japan who gave this racing technique to the world and even on a Japanese car and not on any BMW.

So story behind this mixed confusion is very interesting which started like this so let’s get to know it further.

The introduction of the drifting in a motorsports

It was year 1970 when there was a intense car race event on Fuji speedway and there was a man who was there not just to win that car race but he came there to do something new which wasn’t even thought before by someone else.

It was Kunimitsu Takashi who was a retired bike race who joined car racing after having an accident in a bike race. He already loved speed but he was always into doing something new so he tried it on Fuji speedway race event.

He was in his nissan skyline GTR and he did an experiment with his car, when he approached corner he accelerated his car which resulting his car to slip his rear tires and his car moved to oke direction without loosing any control or dropping speed on the corner. Where other drivers were applying brakes on corner to slow down and to take a turn without loosing control on car.

Audience and present people were shocked to see this all as in prior to this whenever someone’s car used to be oversteer then generally drivers used to be panic because all this used to resulting in spinning the car or dropping off thr track and driver’s elimination from the race.

How “drift king” took this art to global level

So Japanese nissan skyline GTR was the first car to do drift for the first car even if it wasn’t drift friendly car and even for now nissan GTR can’t drift without any tuning.

Car enthusiasts were trying to drift with their nissan GTR but they were unable to do it and “drift king” Keiichi Tsuchiya was one of them.

is this the cheapest v6 in india? honda accord v6 2010

Keiichi Tsuchiya was working in his family metal workshop in his childhood and he used to drive his family car to deliver parts to clients in very young age. In the same race i 1970 Keiichi Tsuchiya saw this drifting and he was so thrilled by this drift that he wanted to own his car so he can practice this art.

He bought his first car nissan skyline GTR canmery which he was racing with and winning so many races. With his consistent winnings local racing team and sponsor kurata jido sa and bando a scai decided to make a deal with him to give him a Toyota A86 if he wins that 1984 championship. And Keiichi Tsuchiya fulfilled his promise and won that car.

Now this car brought a turning point in his career and life where he tunned this car for drifting and also getting support from sponsors and car magazines and tuning shops for parts and maintenance.

In 1987 Keiichi Tsuchiya made a video of him drifting on his A86 and it got viral in car enthusiasts worldwide when internet wasn’t a thing so it was circulated in a video tape which reached in European car guys.

European cars for drift

Germen already having good engineering in cars in mid 80s and they had a decent image in car market so BMW was already aware of drifting but official didn’t want that their car should be linked with this enthusiasm as Mercedes and audi had clean reputation so BMW also wanted tk keep that reputation in car guys.

BMW already had all those qualities in their E30 which are drift friendly in a car but official didn’t want to be associated with a dangerous motosport.

But European car enthusiasts had recognized its ability so now they started drifting with this car and this is how BMW E30 M3 was the BMW’s first car which became a drift king.

Why these European car companies didn’t want to enter in drifting

Now European car enthusiasts came to know the potential of their BMW E30 cars which can’t only go fast on straight line but they are capable going sideways on tight corners.

After E30, another model E33 was also famous in drifting guys as these cars were less expensive lightweight and without any tunings and only with just a differential belt they were drifting corners very well.

Now these cars were also popular for thefts as they were increased in numbers of stolen cars where police gave it a slang ‘break my window’.

Exposing 12 Tire Myths Which Are Destroying Your Tires

After hitting the popularity among drifting still BMW’s official didn’t want to adopt drifting culture as they were still focused on traditional racing only. So their main purpose was to maintain a clean image and not to get known for illegal street races, drifting, smoky burnouts.

Even audi and Mercedes didn’t want their cars to used as street racing or drifting so the Mercedes launched ESP (electronic stability program) in 1995 which was stopping any drift in a car and then audi shifted to Quattro technology which avoid any drift in their cars.

How finally BMW entered in drifting culture

In the starting of 2000s finally drifting was getting recognized by the motorsports and companies were organizing such events officially. Where BMW introduced a safety feature in their cars called DSC ( dynamic stability control) in end of 2001 which used to cut the power if car is about to slide in corners. As BMW didn’t want their cars to be connected with illegal street drifting activities.

But BMW secretly working for drift lovers as their M cars and performance cars still were available with rear wheel drive and mechanical components which were perfect fir drifting.  Even BMW started drifting training in their winter driving school in 2006  where they were teaching drifting. In sweden BMW was teaching to control drifting on ice surfaces to the students.

Finally BMW adopted drifting and accepted it officially in 2011 where BMW launched an ad where BMW M coupe was drifting on a road and this is how BMW openly accepted drifting

Then in his next move BMW blocked an entire roundabout in Capetown where they shot cinematic of drifting on 5 235 coupe were synchronized in drifting act

Now BMW has made its fun to drive tagline a marketing campaign where new BMW’s are launched to be a fun to drive cars and even BMW made a drifting guinis world record on its M5 by drifting it for 24 hours continously where another M5 was refueling it by drifting parallel

Porsche

When Egoistic Porsche Lost Its Legacy To The BMW By M3 GTR

This question is that between Porsche and BMW who won 2001 Le Mans race the answer is gonna be that one germen car company defeated another germen car company which was keep winning this title from last 10 years.

BMW

If you have grown up while playing most beloved game need for speed then this is going to give you nostalgic feel.

And if you are a BMW lover then this will make you happy but Porche lovers are definitely going to make you disappointed.

Le mans race

Le mans race is an annual motorsports event which was found in 1923 which is held in France every year in June. This event is performed on a 13 kms track which includes public roads with a dedicated circuit for 24 hours.

Are Karol Bagh Base To Top Model Modification Cars The Worst Idea Ever?

And main purpose of this event is to test endurance of driver and his car for longer time period. Winner is announced based on the car which covers more kms in 24 hours and any type of car can participate in this race from hypercar to suppersports car or any performance car.

How PC game Need For Speed is linked to this Race

If you have grown playing Need For Speed in your childhood or any phase of your life then you have choosen many cars as a player then there was a blue and silver BMW M3 GTR with flames coming out from its tailpipes.

And which screams you heard from its v8 engine during playing game they all were real which team used from real motorsports events which was giving a very realistic experience to your game.

Most of us came to know about this legendry car from that very popular video game but this wasn’t result of any gamer or developer for a video game. It wasn’t designed on a pc for game only but it was inspiration from a real endurance race Le Mans held in France annually in June month.

Story behind creation this legendry iconic super beast

BMW is know for rejecting bullyness from other cars or drivers if it is open roads or a race track. but there is a prestigious annual endurance race called “Le Mans” organised in France where various car companies participate and prove their machine and driver’s endurance.

So in this race porsche was dominating from last one decade with their most famous car 911 GT and it was hard to defeat Porche due to their long experience of racing and undefeated image which was covering all the magazines and newspapers with its continously victory.

BMW entry in Le Mans endurance race

In 1999 BMW entered in this race with their regular but slightly modified M3 E36 E46 which had flat 6 cylinder 3.2 liter engine but porsche beat the BMW with their 996 generation 911 GT car.

BMW tried to give tough competition with their marvelous engineering but they couldn’t catch porsche after their full potential. BMW could win only 1 race with pushing themselves very hard but Porche kept winning every race in that tournament.

The main issue with BMW was reliability which was creating tough situation and on the other hand Porche had reliable fast machine. BMW was loosing every race in these 2 years which made BMW motorsports team very frustrated so they decided to create a specific car only for le mans race.

Creation of legendry M3 GTR

BMW was ready to reply to Porche with their secret weapon in 2001 Le Mans race and this time race was not for win or loss now it was matter of ego and self respect.

BMW took it very serious and started working on a new reliable, powerful and well engineered profuct from scratch so it was impossible for BMW  to compete with 3.2 inline 6 engine so they developed a new product M3 GTR.

The M3 GTR was developed on a P60 B40 platform with 4.0 liter v8 engine which had aluminium block which had massive 497 Hp and 380 nm torque.

How Mahindra Thar became An emotion for the nation after 2020

It was first time when BMW  had a v8 in its car otherwise only 6 or 4 cylinder engines were being used. Now v8 engine was screaming its lungs out on race track and technicians used to wear headphones to protect their eardrums from its loud engine.

How BMW hacked rules of Le Mans series

Now American Le Mans race rules says that company should manufactured some unites of street version of the same car which is about to being used in race and it should be sold in at least 2 continentals.

M3 GTR was a project car which was designed only for this endurance race and it was very tough to bring other units of this car in production for such very short time.

BMW handled this situation by creating a lawyers team to read rulebook and find any loophole which they succeed to find.

Rules say that company must produce at least 10 units of same car for public sale within 12 months then company is eligible to participate in race.

Then BMW decided to produce 10 street version of M3 GTR to fill the race criteria and these 10 units are called homologation and this M3 GTR was launched as strassenversion.

The main purpose of BMW was not to provide these cars for public use abd they kept price of this car 250,000 euros which was equivalent to ferrari cost.

These models were acquired by BMW motorsports in their garage and there was not a single unit sold to regular customers.

By this BMW fulfilled all the criteria of rulebook by creating 10 road legal untis within 12 months deadline and without solding any unit out in any showrooms.

Politics of Porche against BMW team

After seeing M3 GTR Porche got tensed about rivalry with BMW as they knew that BMW has taken benefit of loophole of regulations by landing M3 GTR in race track which doesn’t have any official unit or even brochure in showrooms for public so they opposed it and protested against BMW.

Now when M3 GTR started winning every lap in race and Porche wasn’t standing next to BMW then it raged Porche even more and they showed their rage in front of FIA and le mans authority.

Porsche

Now it wasn’t just a race track it was war between 2 germen car companies where BMW entered in this race with its 2 teams. BMW motorsports Europe and BMW PGD USA.

BMW verses Porche begin with tough competition where BMW started defeating Porche at the starting but soon BMW was stuck in the pitstop due to some issue where Porche won 3rd lap.

Even after facing reliable issues in car BMW came back to performance and it started beating Porche with its power and great corner handling. Now Porche team started wishing some reliable issues in BMW to save their winning spot.

Soon Le Mans authority changed the rules which were clearly indicating that it was done by Porche influence to keep the M3 GTR out of race as it was too good according to Porche team statements.

After accouncement of new regulations by authority, BMW didn’t take a single time in exiting the race as it was politics done by Porche so BMW won all the titles in Le Mans endurance race in 2001.

the madness behind cruze

The Madness Behind Chevrolet Cruze

When we talk about Chevrolet in India then we don’t remember much models from this brand but still it has a soft corner in Indian car buyers.

Chevrolet’s an American car company which is owned by General Motors group but why this globally successful car got failed in Indian car market.

And why they shut down their business in india and not only single time but this car brand had to close its business in india second time before they left india.

History

Chevrolet introduced some famous and failed products in indian car market during its operation from early 2000s to till 2017 when Chevrolet finally stopped its operation in India.

There were some successful cars in indian market before cruze was launched for example Chevrolet Tavera, beat, spark, aveo and some failed attempt of chevrolet like forestor, sr-v, optra, Captiva.

There was only one car which was launched in india by chevrolet in its last years if operation in india due to poor sales and it was a premium true American suv chevrolet trailblazer which was on sale only for 2 years after its launch in india.

Cruze journey

Cruze is also known as j300 and Chevrolet was already selling this car in Japanese, Australian and new Zealand car market with this name but it wasn’t a proper sedan it was a semi light duty SUV.

chevrolet

but chevrolet didn’t do a proper analysis of indian car market and they launched an underpowered but overpriced car optra which could not impress Indian buyers.

After all of this blunder chevrolet finally launched its iconic best selling car chevrolet cruze which was also known as j300 and this car later earned a historical name as a diesel rocket due to its ergonomically performance.

Updates and upgrades

Initially cruze was launched with 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine which produces 150 ps and 320 nm torque which was giving a punchy driving experience at that time which became its usp. Chevrolet introduced only one engine option in india with diesel engine where there was petrol engine launched in us and Europen countries.

First generation (2009)

First generation cruze had some electronics and mechanical issue which resulted in factory recall to so many units to fix it

Common issue which was faced by owner was steering column failure, engine compartment fire risk. But still it was safest sedan with 5 start ncap euro crash test rating.

First major change(2011)

There was second update in cruze after 2 years of its debut in 2011 where cruze got improvements in fit and finish and Chevrolet tried to work on previous issues.

This upgraded version got extra performance with increased power figure from 150 to 166 ps and 380 nm torque which gave it a name diesel rocket it was beast according to that time.

The combination of power and style in affordable price increased its customers which were modifying it to the next level.

After many improvements in this car there were still some reliability issues which raised a question mark who were owning it or planning to buy one.

The main issue with this car was plastic coolant outlet which was causing issues by cracking and then resulting in overhearing which was affecting engine gaskets and cylinder head damage.

Chevrolet didn’t have a big share in indian market so there were limited showrooms and services which were resulting in parts unavailability and making repairing time longer.

The only Adventure Tourer 4 cylinder motorcycle In The World

Second generation (2016)

Soon after chevrolet brought second generation in india in 2016 which was later proved a reliable car with lots of improvements in components.

Chevrolet decided to give extra premium look and increased safety features to make ot even more safe by introducing modern features in second generation cruze.

Cruze got this time soft touch interior, touchscreen infotainment system with mylink and ot added 6 airbags for extra safety stability control and advanced abs.

Cruze was still available in only diesel engine which was same as previous one but it was most reliable engine with increased mileage.

Cruze started giving 2 transmission options from 2011 which was manual transmission for base trim LT and both manual and automatic transmission in top varient LTZ.

Manual LT and LTZ were giving approximately 17+ mileage where automatic LTZ was giving 14 kmpl mileage.

Price

Chevrolet did a mistake with price while launching optra in india and it was a overpriced car which caused the failure of the optra so this time Chevrolet was cautious about price bracket.

Finally cruze was launched with price of 12.98 lacs in October 2009 and Chevrolet decided to manufactur cruze in india to reduce the price to save money from import tax.

Now chevrolet was giving competition to brands like Honda ford Suzuki skoda with this reasonable price of cruze by offering more power and features in less price.

Look

This factor also played a crucial role in its popularity in Indian car market. This sedan was giving premium look with sportier and futuristic design.

Large and aggressive front grill was giving a different road presence to this car with premium look and side profile long and sporty with sleek designed door panels and long hood with sharp boot.

Long wheel base, sporty aerodynamics, wide widths all these point were giving it a true American muscle car appearance with rich performance.

10 Points you must Know About New Royal Enfield Himalyan 450

Features

All those features which are standard in 2025, those were given in 2009 in cruze even at that price point such as comfortable leather seats with tremendous comfort to give a tough competition to those recliner sofas at premium hotels.

There was Bluetooth connectivity touchscreen infotainment, rear parking cameras with sensors, rain sensor wipers, keyless entry, cruise control etc.

Central console was inspired by plane cockpit which was giving a unique experience for both driver and passenger.

Success of cruze in indian car market

After offering such tremendous value to the customers in a very affordable price cruze hit a massive success with records sales.

Cruze defeated most selling car honda civic by selling 25% more cars than civic and it was slightly behind from top selling car Toyota corolla by only 200 cars.

Why chevrolet had to close its operation in india despite having such good car?

Chevrolet made a place in indian car market with its famous suv Tavera and then brought iconic hatchback Spark but still Chevrolet didn’t have good reputation in indian customers as it was lacking good cars.

There are some those cars which mostly indian have never heard about as it didn’t compete with other car brands due to poopr reliability or marketing.

When there wasn’t any reliable or value for money chevrolet model then cruze ignited a spark of hope in this company but due to make in India strategy, this car had lots of reliable issues which started shattering customers trust in chevrolet.

When other cars were bringing advanced technology and features in their car, cruze took very long time to upgrade and this car was already facing reliable issues so customers started avoiding this car.

Chevrolet sale was dropping day by day and it was becoming very hard for them to operate their business in india so chevrolet shut their business in india and this most loved car had to stop manufacturing.
